  • Pep Guardiola has revealed that he is a big admirer of the work Erik ten Hag is doing at Manchester United this season
  • The Red Devils have shown signs of being a formidable team once again after their recent struggles after Sir Alex Ferguson's departure
  • Guardiola has been keeping an eye on the developments at Old Trafford and so far, the Spanish tactician is impressed

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has waxed lyrical about Manchester United's revival under new manager Erik ten Hag.

Ten Hag took over the hot seat at Old Trafford in the summer following a calamitous season that saw the club change managers mid-season.

The former Ajax manager oversaw a busy transfer window that saw the arrivals of high-profile players in Christian Eriksen, Casemiro, Antony and Tyrell Malacia. He has also had to hold down the fort over the contentious Cristiano Ronaldo saga that saw the acclaimed striker almost leave before throwing tantrums thereafter.

Reversal of fortunes

He started his official reign with back-to-back losses against Brighton and Brentford. Ten Hag got back on track with a huge win over Liverpool.

The side then lost to Pep Guardiola's side heavily in the Manchester derby. Their other defeat in all competitions came against Real Sociedad in the Europa League.

Guardiola has now taken cognizance of their crosstown rivals' good performance. City have ruled Manchester since Sir Alex Ferguson retired.

"I have the feeling that United is coming back. Finally! United is coming! I saw signals from their 3-0 win over Sheriff Tiraspol and in the game against Chelsea in the first half," as quoted by Daily Mail.

Manchester United are currently sixth on the log with 20 points.

Guardiola aims a subtle dig at Manchester United

This is a sharp contrast to what he had said earlier. Sports Brief has previously reported that Manchester City cruised to an emphatic derby win over Manchester United on October 2nd, but Pep Guardiola says his team could have scored more goals in a game where they hit United for six.

Scintillating hat-tricks from Erling Haaland and Phil Foden inflicted an embarrassing defeat on crosstown rivals United, who were blown away by an outstanding City team.

Pep is known for directing crafty comments toward rival teams, coaches and players, and his post-match reaction wasn't any different.
