Riyad Mahrez: Algerian FA responds to Man City's doping scare

The Algerian Football Association has said that medicines taken by Riyad Mahrez while on international duty is a problem for Manchester City, and a non-event.

The FA clearly stated that it was not Algeria's responsibility with the player having taken the medications after they won the Africa Cup of Nations.

According to BBC (UK), Mahrez was left out of Pep Guardiola's Sunday's Community Shield through fears he could fall foul of doping, and risk involved.

"This is a non-event from the moment the player took the medications after the Africa Cup of Nations," said FAF.
"It is a problem for Manchester City," the Algerian FA said.

The situation could force Mahrez to sit out Saturday’s trip to West Ham to give the unknown medication enough time to clear his system.

"The doctors did not have exactly the medicines. We don't have what he took. That's why, for doping control, today was a risk because the doctors didn't have it,

"That's why he wasn't in the squad to play some minutes. Hopefully he will be back next game against West Ham and in the future everything will be normal." Guardiola said after the match.

The World Anti Doping Agency rule has blacklisted a number of sinus and eye treatments that are prohibited from use.
