  • Jack Grealish now holds an unwanted record, after Liverpool keeper Alisson surpassed him on the assist category this year in the Premier League
  • The Brazilian goalkeeper has provided two assists in the Premier League this year while Grealish has just one
  • Alisson assisted Mohamed Salah's goal versus Manchester City last night, with Grealish watching from the bench as his side lost 1-0

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker not only helped deliver the winning blow against Manchester City, but also surpassed their star Jack Grealish in one stat category.

Alisson's long range assist to Mohamed Salah meant the Brazilian keeper has now provided more assists in the Premier League in 2022 than Grealish.

Grealish signed for City last year for £100 million from Aston Villa and although the numbers say he hasn't lit up Etihad yet, Pep Guardiola feels he is an important player for his team.

Meanwhile, Brazil international Alisson has two assists in the league this year. He set up Salah in the 3-1 home win against Norwich City in February. Both assist were surprisingly similar.

Grealish's poor assist record

According to the Mirror, the England star has assisted just one goal this year. It came in the 5-0 win against Newcastle United in May, as he squared the ball to Raheem Sterling for a tap-in.

Alisson famously scored the winning goal for Liverpool in 2021 against West Bromwich Albion, helping the Reds qualify for the Champions League.

Grealish is under pressure from fans to deliver the goods because he is the most expensive player in British football history.

Speaking after scoring versus Wolves last season, Grealish said he deserves the criticism.

"Rightly so, I should be scoring more, I should be getting more assists. The only thing I can do is score and get assists. It’s something that I do want to add to my game and playing with this team, and in front of these fans hopefully I can."

Sports Brief earlier reported on popular pundit Graeme Souness telling Grealish not to be so precious, after he launched a scathing attack on the English international.

Souness reiterated he had no problem with the winger, adding that he was entitled to an opinion. Grealish agreed to go for a night out with Souness, only if he could bring Paul Pogba.
