  • Pep Guardiola has denied reports of an apparent release clause in Erling Haaland’s contract
  • The rumours claimed the door would be open for Haaland to join Real Madrid after two years
  • Haaland is currently enjoying a purple patch at Manchester City, and recently scored a brace in the Champions League

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has clarified that reports in Spain claiming Erling Haaland has a release clause in his contract at the Etihad are false.

Amid a scintillating run of form across all competitions, rumours were rife that Haaland was set to stay at Manchester City for only two years as per an alleged clause in his contract.

The reports from Spain further claimed the Norwegian striker would be able to join Real Madrid as early as in 2024.

But Guardiola trashed the reports, simply stating they are “not true”.

"Am I annoyed by the rumours? No, absolutely not. Rumours, and people talking, you cannot control it - so always we have to worry about what we can control. Guardiola said as quoted on Daily Mail.
"The important thing is that he has adapted [since joining City] really well. I have the feeling he is incredibly happy here, and this is the most important thing."

It only makes sense that sensational rumours are surrounding Haaland, considering the start he has had in the league this season.

The 22-year-old has made 12 appearances for Manchester City since moving from Borussia Dortmund and has found the net a staggering 19 times.

His latest goals came on Wednesday, October 5 when he scored a brace as the Citizens saw off FC Copenhagen 5-0.

Despite being on a hat trick, Guardiola opted to take off the Norwegian, but latest said he did so because he was focusing on City’s next Premier League game – against Southampton.
