  • Man City's De Bruyne was spotted holding Ronaldo's shirt after the game after providing two assists in the rout
  • Ronaldo remained on the bench for the entire game, with Erik ten Hag explaining afterwards he did out of respect for Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo granted Kevin De Bruyne's request, despite his side suffering an embarrassing defeat at the hands of their cross-town rivals in the Manchester derby on Sunday.

De Bruyne was on hand to inflict damage on Manchester United, as the Premier League defending champions kept surprise log leaders Arsenal in check.

The Belgian is believed to have asked for Ronaldo's shirt before the derby and he ended up getting it after the match. Manchester Evening News reports that the midfielder walked in for an interview after the game holding Ronaldo's shirt.

De Bruyne has previously expressed his desire to play with Ronaldo stating that his assists tally would go up, as the Mirror reports.

The 31-year-old was once again instrumental for his side by bagging two assists, as Erling Haaland and Phil Foden each grabbed hat tricks.

Ronaldo meanwhile, was an unused substitute as his torrid season under Erik ten Hag continued.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner saw Marcus Rashford start ahead of him before Antony Martial was introduced later on. The latter ended up scoring a late brace to halve the deficit.

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Cristiano Ronaldo was visibly upset and distraught at Manchester United’s first-half performance in the derby on Sunday, October 2. In a fairly one-sided game.

Phil Foden and Erling Haaland both bagged hat-tricks as the Premier League champions cruised to a 6-3 victory.

United had such a poor first half on the day that hundreds of fans resorted to leaving the stadium early after their team’s shambolic performance.

United managed to salvage some of their pride, thanks to goals from Anthony and Anthony Martial to at least half the score line.
