  • Kevin De Bruyne is on course to set a new record for the most number of assists in a single Premier League season
  • He currently holds the record jointly with Thierry Henry at 20 assists but with six so far in just seven Premier League games this season, the record might as well be broken
  • Often deployed on the right of a midfield three, the Belgian has a knack for advancing into the right wing, where he sends in sumptuous crosses into the area

Kevin De Bruyne has cemented his status as one of the best midfielders ever to grace the Premier League.

After initially struggling to impress at Chelsea, the Belgian left for the Bundesliga for a couple of seasons before returning to the English top-flight with Manchester City.

He has since played a hand in City's four Premier League triumphs. His exquisite crosses and passes have more often than not turned into assists.

De Bruyne has started the 2022/2023 season on a high note. He already has six assists to his name thanks to a devastating combination with new hotshot Erling Haaland.

The record for most assists in a single season is jointly held by De Bruyne and Thierry Henry at 20 assists. With only seven games played so far in the Premier League, the 31-year-old might just be on his way to setting a new record.

Premier League statistics show that he has created 8 big chances, three more than any other Premier League player.

The Belgian's ability lies in his ability to whip in crosses into the area that are always crying for a minimal touch from a striker. Haaland looks to have become adept at latching at such crosses in England and has 11 goals so far.

Pep Guardiola will certainly rotate his squad ahead of a congested calendar year, but the onus is on De Bruyne to have a blistering season.

Kevin De Bruyne defends Jack Grealish's form at Manchester City

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Manchester City's assistant captain Kevin De Bruyne has defended his teammate Jack Grealish. Grealish has often been criticised for putting in below-par performances for City.

The former Aston Villa man joined the Premier League last summer in a huge money deal. He has, however, failed to nail down his place in Pep Guardiola's side.

Grealish scored his first goal of the season in City's 3-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers over the weekend. The Englishman turned in a Kevin De Bruyne cross in the first minute.
