  • Manchester City and Belgium midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has claimed that he is bored of playing Wales in international matches
  • Belgium and Wales have found themselves placed in the same groups often, with De Bruyne lamenting the tiring nature of facing the same side
  • The latest meeting between the two saw De Bruyne score once and assist once to help his side to a 2-1 victory

Kevin De Bruyne has claimed that he is tired of playing against Wales on the international level. The midfielder was speaking ahead of Belgium's clash against Wales in the UEFA Nations League.

He went on to put a characteristic masterclass as he provided a goal and scored one to help his side win 2-1.

But the midfielder has appeared to send a subtle dig at UEFA claiming that his Belgium side always plays Wales.

I think half of my international career has been against Wales.

Daily Mail reports that Belgium and Wales have faced each other nine times in the last ten years. A good number of these fixtures have come in the last two years as both sides were in the same qualification groups for World Cup and Nations League.

I don't know why. It is a little bit boring. I think it is 12 times I have played them, it is always the same teams.

De Bruyne has also in the past been critical of the necessity of the Nations League, calling on all stakeholders to be more mindful of players' welfare.

The Manchester City star is part of the golden generation Belgian side that will have their last shot at silverware at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The Red Devils will face 2018 finalists Croatia, Canada and Morocco in Group F.

They play the Netherlands on Sunday in the last fixture of the Nations League.

Kevin De Bruyne makes his choice between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Kevin De Bruyne once gave an interesting but brilliant answer when asked who he would prefer playing alongside between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

The Belgian international has come up against both players in different stages in his career.

As far as Ronaldo is concerned, De Bruyne could come up against him as early as October 2022 in the Manchester derby.
