  • Manchester City right-back Kyle Walker had to go off due to injury in the game against Aston Villa on Saturday
  • Guardiola admitted after the game that he withdrew Walker because he noted some discomfort in the player
  • The game ended in a 1-1 draw with the citizens dropping points for the second time this season

Kyle Walker is set for a spell on the sidelines as Pep Guardiola confirmed the right-back had sustained an injury during the clash against Aston Villa.

Walker only lasted 80 minutes, and It came as a surprise to many when he was taken off.

Manchester City took the lead via Erling Haaland but were pegged back through Leon Bailey’s wonderful strike late in the second half.

Daily Mail reports that Guardiola was initially tempted to take off Walker at half time but the right back was adjudged to have been fit enough to continue. He was however eventually taken off late on and replaced by Nathan Ake.

“He continued, but at the end, he could not continue. We will see, I didn't speak with the doctors.” Guardiola said as he dismissed any knowledge of a prognosis.

Man City’s growing injury list

Walker’s injury will certainly be a blow to Guardiola and Manchester City, who also have Aymeric Laporte and summer signing Kalvin Phillips missing through different injuries.

Laporte had knee surgery from an injury in May 2022 and is still recovering, while Phillips is down with a knock he picked up in the friendly against Barcelona last month.
