Injuries to Aymeric Laporte and Nathan Ake meant that the English champions were light on defenders and Guardiola needed cover, especially with the thick run of fixtures coming up.

An old video of Akanji has surfaced online, displaying his brilliance in Mathematics. The Swiss defender is considered one of the brightest footballers.

In the video, Akanji is asked random calculation questions alongside his Borussia Dortmund teammate, who has a calculator. But Akanji beats his teammate with the correct answers every time.

ESPN captioned the video hilariously by saying

Man City might have brought in Manuel Akanji so someone can keep count of Haaland's goals.

Haaland has taken the English Premier League by storm. He already has nine goals from his first five goals. The Norwegian striker has also grabbed two hattricks in the process.

He struggled in his competitive debut for City against Liverpool in the Community Shield but quickly turned on a new leaf putting his doubters to the sword.
