The summer started with reports rife that Neymar would be forced out of the club. He, however, stayed put and mentioned severally that he had no intention of leaving the club.

Marca reports that PSG wanted to please Mbappe by selling Neymar. The two are known for having on-and-off issues that have been considered detrimental to the unity of the dressing room.

PSG wanted to release one of them to avoid future issues at the club. The current project is being built around Mbappe, having been convinced to extend his stay in Paris and therefore, Neymar was the one to pave way.

Neymar is considered not to be a team player

Pep Guardiola's side, however, rejected the chance to sign the 30-year-old due to more or less similar issues. It is understood that City believes that they already have enough superstars at their disposal. Doubts were also cast on Neymar's ability to be a team player rather than want all the limelight to himself under Guardiola.

The deal fell through and PSG head coach Christophe Galtier is set to look for ways to keep both Mbappe and Neymar happy. Neymar has begun the new season in blistering form, having already bagged nine goals and six assists so far.

Neymar takes penalty ahead of Kylian Mbappe in the draw against Monaco

Sports Brief had earlier reported that the choice of Paris Saint-Germain's penalty taker has brought with it widespread controversy.

Two of the club's top stars, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, openly clashed for a spot kick recently against Montpellier.

It was thereafter decided that Mbappe would be the club's first-choice penalty taker, with Neymar stepping up should the club get another penalty in the game.
