Kevin de Bruyne could hardly hide his fury at Erling Haaland during Man City's 3-1 defeat in the hands of Liverpool during the Community Shield on Saturday, July 30.

De Bruyne and Haaland were drafted into City's starting lineup during the Premier League curtain-raiser staged at the King Power Stadium.

However, the two were unable to strike the perfect partnership many fans had hoped for as they struggled to link up during the clash.

The duo's inability to be on the same wavelength left De Bruyne frustrated at one point, with the Belgian forced to pull rank to give his new teammate a Man City reality check.

According to The Mirror, De Bruyne was disappointed with Haaland after the ex-Borussia Dortmund hotshot failed to make a run.

It is understood that De Bruyne had expected the new City striker to make a run behind Liverpool's defence, only for Haaland to stay stationary.

ESPN reports that Haaland's actions left De Bruyne angry, with the creative midfielder reacting by throwing his arms up in the air in exasperation.

The two City stars are said to have had a private conversation on the pitch to reflect on the incident.

How Liverpool downed Man City at King Power Stadium

Meanwhile, Liverpool were in fine shape during their meeting with Man City as they gave their Premier League rivals a glimpse of what to expect next season.

Sports Brief reported Jurgen Klopp's charges got things off a flying start through Trent-Alexandre Arnold, who fired home the opener in the 21st minute.

However, City's new signing, Julian Alvarez, drew his side level in the 70th minute before Mohamed Salah restored Liverpool's lead from the spot in the 84th minute.

The Reds' summer acquisition Darwin Nunez took the game beyond City's reach at stoppage time to inspire the Mersesiders' to a huge win.
