The keeper was attacked numerous times by City fans as they invaded the pitch to celebrate their team’s come from behind victory.

Footage showed the keeper being hit numerous times while he tried to make his way back to the dressing room.

City released a statement soon after condemning the actions and promising an investigation into the matter. The champions warned that those found guilty would be given lifetime stadium bans, The Express confirmed.

Manchester United legend Roy Keane labelled the City fans as ‘idiots’, ‘scumbags’ and a ‘disgrace’ during the incident. The goalposts were also broken during the celebrations as the crossbar was brought down by the weight of fans climbing onto it, The South African reported.

Pitch invasions have been in the news recently after Everton fans stormed the ground following their team’s victory against Crystal Palace which saw them avoid relegation.

Footage captured during that game show Palace manager Patrick Vieira kicking out at a fan who taunted him after the game.

Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira appeared to kick out at a supporter who looked to be goading him amid a pitch invasion by Everton fans on Thursday night, Sports Brief earlier reported.

Everton fans flooded the pitch after their team recovered from 2-0 down at halftime to win at Goodison Park and secure Premier League survival before Sunday's final round. Goals from Michael Keane and Richarlison pulled the hosts level before Calvert-Lewin's late winner secured a 3-2 victory over the Eagles.

In a video posted on Twitter, spotted by Sports Brief, a supporter seemingly holding up a phone could be seen extending his arms toward the Crystal Palace manager's face as he tried to leave the field.
