Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola reckons that winning the English Premier League is more difficult than winning the UEFA Champions League.

The Spaniard has come under scrutiny following his inability to guide Manchester City to the Holy Grail since his arrival at the Etihad Stadium in 2016.

The closest the former FC Barcelona coach has come to annexing the premier European club competition was last season when his Man City outfit lost narrowly to fellow Premier League rivals Chelsea.

Reacting to claims he has failed to live up to expectations in Europe, Guardiola claimed winning the UEFA Champions League is less difficult compared to the Premier League.

"The Premier League is more difficult [than the Champions League]," Guardiola told the press as quoted by MARCA.

"There are many weeks, many games, many injuries, good and bad times, different situations... Success has been there in recent years. Fighting for the Premier League makes sense day-to-day in the changing room."

Guardiola, who is on the verge of winning the Premier League, compared the two competitions, while also stating that he doesn't undermine the Champions League.

"I'm not saying that the Champions League isn't important," Guardiola insisted.

"We would have loved to be in Paris next week, but winning 38 games is different from winning six or seven, although it's always nice."

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Pep Guardiola believes Manchester City will score more goals when Erling Haaland joins the Premier League champions next season.

The Citizens have been without a natural centre forward since the departure of Sergio Aguero at the end of the 2020/21 campaign.

According to a report via Sky Sports, Guardiola has now revealed that signing Haaland from Borussia Dortmund is good for his team as Manchester City will be more clinical in getting goals.
