  • Guardiola strongly believes his ambitions will never be fully achieved even if he wins the Champions League
  • City host Real Madrid at the Etihad in a semi final, with Guardiola looking to get to a second final in the competition in three years
  • The Spaniard is yet to win the competition in more than a decade, with his last triumph coming with the help of a star-studded Barcelona side.

Pep Guardiola came up with a brilliant answer when he was asked whether lifting the Champions League with Manchester City would mean ‘mission accomplished’ for his managerial career.

The Spaniard is in the semi-final of the competition for the second successive season as he chases the elusive Champions League title, which he last won more than 10 years ago.

This time, he comes up against Real Madrid, who, like Manchester City, are also chasing the Champions League and domestic league double.

Ahead of the game, Guardiola addressed several topics, including the notion that he will have achieved everything if he just wins the Champions League with a team that is not Barcelona.

"As far as being a manager, personally, my accomplishment will never be accomplished, I'll have another dream to reach," Guardiola said quoted by The Sun.
“We decide together with the club, everyone says good, bad, accomplished or not. Up to you, not a problem, will be other players in future and I try to do it again. Nothing changed in the years I won it or didn't win it."

Guardiola’s UCL record at City

In truth, one cannot underestimate the value Guardiola has brought to Man City since taking charge of the club in 2016.

Previous managers of the club failed to guide them past the group stage on numerous occasions, but Guardiola has been able to advance to knockout stages in every season he has been in charge of the club.

The closest he came to clinching the trophy was in 2021, when he reached the final but was ultimately beaten by Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea in an all-English affair.

Up to 9 EPL sides can qualify for Europe

Elsewhere, Sports Brief broke down a bizarre scenario that could see up to nine Premier League sides qualify for European competitions next season.

This year’s Champions League final will certainly have an English side in the final, while West Ham have the chance to win the Europa League.

Leicester, meanwhile, are also in the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League and could qualify for the Europa League of they win the third-tier competition.
