  • Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi has not taken kindly to SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt's words
  • Hunt made his unhappiness clear at the continued loss of players to their rivals across the town
  • Mngqithi then counter-attacked by accusing Hunt of hypocrisy about his successful tenure at Bidvest Wits

The rivalry between Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United just became tastier.

Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi has accused SuperSport United mentor Gavin Hunt of hypocrisy following his annoyance at the Brazilians constantly signing United players and supposedly weakening the league with their spending power.

According to the Daily Sun, Mngqithi said:

"I would have the same talk with Gavin (Hunt) when he was at Bidvest Wits and they were signing signing so many players and he was winning... were they also killing the league?

"Because the truth of the matter is, if you were to check that season when Wits won the league, you'll find that Gavin signed a lot of quality players, and he did very well."

Sundowns defeated United 2-0 in an MTN 8 quarterfinal on Sunday night at the Tuks Stadium. The two teams will meet in what will prove to be an absorbing DStv Premiership match on Friday night to kick the weekend's action off.

Gavin Hunt annoyed by Mamelodi Sundowns constantly raiding Supersport United for players

Gavin Hunt has only gone and asked the most awkward of questions out of nowhere.

As reported by Sports Brief, the SuperSport United coach has questioned why his team lets players join city rivals Mamelodi Sundowns to the point that Matsatsantsa are jokingly referred to as The Brazilians' academy. Hunt also said that Bafana Ba Style's spending power has weakened South African football.

The two teams collided in an MTN 8 Wafa Wafa quarterfinal clash last Sunday that Sundowns won 2-0. This Friday, the two teams will then meet in a DStv Premiership encounter where one team will be gloating while the other licks its wounds. There is no telling if this was mind games by Hunt, but his comments will definitely cause a stir.
