  • The DStv Premiership will have its first headline clash of the 2022/23 tomorrow afternoon at Loftus Versfeld
  • Defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns will host the ambitious Kaizer Chiefs in the match of the weekend
  • The Amakhosi come into the game after a mood-lifting victory over Maritzburg United, while Bafana Ba Style were stunned by TS Galaxy

The 2022-23 DStv Premiership’s box office clash will take place on Saturday as Mamelodi Sundowns welcome Kaizer Chiefs to the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria.

Sundowns come into the clash on the back of a 1-0 loss at home to TS Galaxy in midweek. This was a monumental shock given that the Tshwane side looked as ruthless and efficient as ever when they opened the season with a 2-0 win away to last season’s runners-up, Cape Town City, last Friday.

The Brazilians will no doubt be stung by their reverse at the hands of the Rockets, but will have no better platform to bounce back than a high-profile clash against a fellow heavyweight at a ground that should feature an electric atmosphere.

Chiefs, who opened their season on a low note with a 1-0 loss away to Royal AM last weekend, set things right in midweek when they romped to a 3-0 home win over Maritzburg United.

Defeating the Team of Choice will have boosted morale for the Amakhosi, though they will know that overcoming the reigning champions in their backyard will require a more composed and clinical performance than the one on Tuesday.

A bullish Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane said to Goal:

“We don’t have fear, we fear no one. If we are not going to go into that game and make mistakes, then we’re not going to improve.”

According to SuperSport, a circumspect Sundowns boss Rulani Mokwena said:

“It is our responsibility, to make sure the team is prepared. So, when the team isn’t prepared, we don’t have enough hunger, we don’t have enough aggression, then we have to look at our preparation because there’s a big game on Saturday.”

Junior Khanye pours cold water over Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates DStv Premiership hopes

Junior Khanye won't make himself popular among Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates with his latest comments.

As reported by Sports Brief, the former Amakhosi player dismissed his ex-club's as well as Orlando Pirates' hopes of dethroning Mamelodi Sundowns for the DStv Premiership title.

Bafana BaStyle have won it five times in a row, while Chiefs and Pirates last did so in 2015 and 2012 respectively.
