Orlando Pirates are the only other South African side to achieve a domestic treble.

Sundowns’ treble success came thanks to a Thapelo Morena goal in the 120th minute of the Nedbank Cup final against Marumo Gallants.

The game was level at 1-1 after regulation times thanks to goals from Peter Shalulile for Sundowns and Junior Dion for Gallants, Sowetan LIVE reported.

The game was not without strange moments though. The match had to be stopped for a while after a streaker ran onto the field to hug a Marumo Gallants player.

Sundowns fans also stormed the pitch after the game to celebrate with players, leading to the trophy presentation being delayed as the pitch had to be cleared.

Sundowns’ season has been unprecedented. Masandawana have played in every single game possible during this year’s domestic season, having made it to the finals of all local tournaments and playing all their games in the DStv Premiership.

Sundowns also competed in their ninth Nedbank Cup final, the most of any team in the PSL area.

Masandawana won five titles and lost four.
