Good news for Mamelodi Sundowns fans, Kennedy Mweene has signed a new deal with the Brazilians.

The legendary Zambian shot-stopper joined Masandawana from Free State Stars in 2013 and is closing in one 10 years as a Sundowns player.

KickOff confirmed that Mweene put pen to paper on a new deal but could confirm how long his contract extension is.

Mweene will join an exclusive list of ex-Sundowns players who all spent over ten years at the club. The list includes players such as Hlompho Kekana, Surprise Moriri and Daniel Mudau.

The Zambian turns 38 this year but has been as reliable as ever when called upon to play. In the 11 games he’s played this season, he’s achieved seven clean sheets.

Mweene is one of four goalkeepers on the books at Sundowns but is the only footballer in South Africa to have won all the major trophies on the continent and in the country. Mweene has notched up over 120 caps for his country and was even a part of the Zambian team that beat Ivory Coast in the final of AFCON 2012, getting the better of Didier Drogba in the penalty shootout.

According to TransferMarkt.com, Mweene is currently valued at €175 000.

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi says that the club is looking to strengthen intimidating squad

Mamelodi Sundowns is not planning to stop any time soon in terms of strengthening its squad. The Brazilians, de facto, have come to boast at least three quality players per position in its squad, Sports Brief reported.

This has seen them win five consecutive DStv Premiership titles in a row among a truckload of trophies in recent years. According to Sowetan LIVE, Mngqithi said that on the club's shopping list were a striker, centre-back and midfielder.

Importantly, another goal-getter in the form of red-hot Peter Shalulile to support the Namibian striker. Mngqithi also revealed that Rivaldo Coetzee's hernia injury, which kept him out of most this season, led the coaching staff to consider beefing up the midfield in his continued absence.
