Mamelodi Sundowns will host Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League this weekend, looking to beat the Egyptian giants for a second time this season.

The Brazilians will be hoping to have their new Bolivian signing, Erwin Saavedra, back for the game.

Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach, Manqoba Mngqithi, said that they were hopeful that Saavedra might be fit in time for the game, The Sowetan reported.

“On Saavedra, I cannot confirm now, but he is back in training and we are hopeful that he will make it. It still depends on how he does over the next two days,” said Mngqithi.

Mamelodi Sundowns expect a tough encounter when they host Al Ahly, with both teams looking to secure qualification to the next round.

Sundowns though will be without one of their co-coaches, Rulani Mokwena.

Mokwena was sent off during the Al Ahly game in Egypt and is suspended as a result, iDiski Times reported. Mngqithi spoke about the importance of having all the coaches available for the game.

“We are one team here, we work together, we have common goals and common ambitions,” he said.
“When one of us is not there it’s not the same, it can never be the same, we would have loved to have everyone together but probably with modern technology and everything we’ll be able to still have the same conversations we have and find solutions to the problems together.

"Sundowns is playing against Orlando Pirates Lite": Masandawana mock Buccaneers after beating Mathaithai FC

Mamelodi Sundowns’ fans are still over the moon after their side trounced Mathaithai FC in the Nedbank Cup. Sundowns ran out 6-0 winners thanks to goals from Surprise Ralani, Themba Zwane, Thabiso Kutumela (2), Lebohang Maboe and Andile Jali, Sports Brief reported.

As Sport24 noted, it wasn’t the same result that Sundowns handed out to Powerlines FC when they beat them 24-0, but it was still a drubbing. Fans of the Brazilians were also quick to point out that Sundowns once beat Orlando Pirates by the same scoreline, so Mathaithai FC had nothing to be ashamed about.

Sundowns beat Pirates 6-0 in a Premier Soccer League fixture in 2017, a result that angered Pirates supporters so much, that they invaded the pitch and destroyed TV cables and cameras, The South African reported.
