Maduka Okoye has reached a significant landmark in his Serie A career, becoming the first time the 26-year-old has kept three consecutive clean sheets in Italy’s top division — a run that is strengthening his case for the Nigeria number one shirt heading into an important phase of the international calendar.

The Udinese goalkeeper shut out Genoa, Como, and AC Milan in succession during the 2025/26 season, with the latter result standing as the most notable of the trio. Udinese defeated AC Milan 3-0, and Okoye remained composed throughout, denying one of Serie A’s most attacking-minded squads on multiple occasions across the 90 minutes.

The sequence began with a disciplined display against Genoa before Okoye followed up with an assured performance against Como, where his shot-stopping and control of the penalty area drew particular attention. The three-game run represents the first time in his Serie A career that he has achieved such sustained defensive consistency at the highest club level.

The timing of the run carries added weight given that Okoye is returning to full fitness after a thigh injury that had briefly interrupted his season. Despite that setback, he has remained a consistent presence for Udinese in 2025/26, performing reliably in matches where defensive solidity has been critical to the club’s results.

With the Super Eagles‘ first-choice goalkeeping position described as still open, Okoye’s current form places him among the frontrunners for the role. Nigeria’s goalkeeping options have been a subject of ongoing discussion within football circles, and performances of this calibre at club level are typically a primary factor in national team selection considerations.

Should Okoye sustain this level of output through the remainder of the Serie A season, he would not only consolidate his standing at Udinese but also present a compelling argument to the Super Eagles coaching staff ahead of upcoming fixtures.
