Louis Saha, who represented Manchester United during a spell at Old Trafford, has added his voice to growing calls for the club to sign Nigeria international Victor Osimhen, arguing the Galatasaray striker has the attributes required to revive United’s misfiring attack.
Speaking via BetVictor, Saha was unequivocal in his assessment of the 26-year-old. “Victor Osimhen is still one of the best strikers out there, so I can see why he is being linked to replace Robert Lewandowski. Osimhen is a top player. I would love to see him at Manchester United,” he said.
Osimhen has attracted widespread attention from European clubs ahead of the summer transfer window. Among the most prominent suitors is Barcelona, where the Super Eagles captain has been identified as a potential long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski. Reports suggest Lewandowski’s future at the Catalan club remains uncertain, with his own recent comments doing little to dispel speculation.
Saha’s endorsement goes beyond simply praising Osimhen’s technical ability. The former French international believes United’s forward line is currently missing a senior figure capable of sustaining elite-level output over the course of a full season. “When you are a striker at United, you need one or two experienced players who can take the pressure, maintain the quality, and help the others,” he explained.
Drawing a direct comparison to Bayern Munich and England forward Harry Kane — widely regarded as one of the most consistent strikers of his generation — Saha outlined what he believes Osimhen could become at Old Trafford. “He’s not ready yet, not able to maintain that quality every game like Harry Kane. That is the type of talent I think Osimhen has. He could be Man United’s own Harry Kane,” he added.
Osimhen joined Galatasaray on loan from Napoli ahead of the 2024-25 season after a protracted transfer saga that saw a move to Saudi Arabia fall through. His performances in Turkey have kept him in contention for a high-profile European move, and Galatasaray head coach Okan Buruk previously drew comparisons between Osimhen and global stars Kylian Mbappé and Harry Kane in terms of importance to their respective clubs.
At international level, Osimhen remains a central figure for the Super Eagles, having finished as one of Africa’s most prolific forwards over the past several seasons. His 76 goals for Napoli across all competitions before his departure cemented his reputation as one of the continent’s most lethal attackers.
Manchester United, currently navigating a difficult transitional period under new ownership and management, have identified striker recruitment as a priority. The club has lacked a reliable, experienced centre-forward capable of delivering consistently in the Premier League, a gap Saha clearly believes Osimhen could fill.
Whether United move concretely for the Nigerian this summer will depend on several factors, including Osimhen’s own preferences, the resolution of his contractual situation with Napoli, and the financial parameters set by the club’s new leadership structure. Barcelona remain the most frequently cited destination in reports, though no official agreement has been confirmed by any of the parties involved.
