Real Madrid confirmed the harrowing news in a statement released on Thursday, April 1, although the extent of the injury is yet to be made public.

"Following tests carried out today on our captain Sergio Ramos by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a muscle injury in the inner calf of his left leg," Real Madrid said in a statement.

Ramos’ absence will be a big blow for Los Blancos, who will not only miss both legs against Liverpool, but might also be absent for the el Classico.

Real Madrid face Liverpool in the Champions League next week before preparing for a crucial six-pointer against Barcelona on April 10.

Ramos played only four minutes against Kosovo on Wednesday as the 2010 World Champions cruised to a 3-1 victory.

The latest development will not only come as a blow to Real Madrid, but neutral fans as well as many were keen to see a rematch between Ramos and Salah.

The two last met in the 2018 Champions League final where Ramos was thoroughly criticized by Liverpool fans for a challenge which ended the Egyptian’s Champions League final early.

At the time, Ramos came together with Salah and the two went down, with Salah coming off worse in what looked like a painful shoulder injury.

Real Madrid went on to win 3-1 in the final which was played in Kiev.

“I’ve had a rough couple of weeks”

Ramos took to his Instagram where he also spoke of his latest injury, stating that he “has had a rough couple of weeks”.

“Yesterday, after the game, I stayed in training on the pitch and noticed a puncture on the left twin. Got tested today and it’s confirmed that I have a muscle injury,” he said.
“If there is something that hurts me is not being able to help the team in these games of maximum demand and not being able to give something on the pitch,”

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane emerged as a priority target for Spanish League giants Real Madrid this summer.

Los Blancos recently tilted towards landing England forward since their quest to bring either Erling Haaland or Kylian Mbappe is taking a longer time.

Both youngsters are the hottest attackers in the world at the moment but their clubs will not be ready to part ways with them anytime soon.
