  • Liverpool were sent packing from the FA Cup after a 2-1 loss to Premier League team Brighton
  • The Albions came from behind to beat Liverpool, scoring the last goal in the final moments of the game
  • Liverpool manager Klopp had a brief disagreement with one of his players after the game

The 2022/23 season for Liverpool kept getting worse after their elimination from the FA Cup after a 2-1 loss to fellow Premier League club Brighton.

Their chances of lifting silverware were reduced, having been eliminated from both domestic cup competitions. They sit eighth on the PL table and face holders Real Madrid in the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League.

Head coach Jurgen Klopp and defender Andrew Robertson disagreed in their assessment of the team's current situation after the loss.

Klopp and Robertson disagree

Speaking after the match to ITV, the defender claimed the team are disappointing and have lost the competitiveness that made it a force to reckon with in the past years.

‘It’s bitterly disappointing. This season has been nowhere near good enough. At the start of the year, we wanted a fresh start but that hasn’t happened. We’ve been worse. In the league, we haven’t been good enough and now we’re out of both cups now,' he said.

Klopp did not exactly agree with his player as he felt there were positives to take from the game against Brighton and build on, he said in his post-match conference quoted by Metro UK.

‘It’s not 100 percent true but it’s not 100 percent wrong. Of course we wanted a new start, that was clear after the World Cup. So far it hasn’t happened properly, that’s true. There were good performances today as well, good moments which we need to build on,’

Reactions to Robertson's comments

Some fans agree with the Scottish international while some saw his comments as excuses, majorly opposing fans.

The reason I’m not as worried as people on this bird app is because we have so many characters like this. Diaz, Jota, VVD back and a couple mods and we’ll be brilliant again. Times are tough but we’ll get there, up the reds always!

Hmm interesting. But I’m being told things have been getting better. Who to believe ?

Klopp admits Liverpool miss Mane

Sports Brief earlier reported that Klopp stylishly admitted the club miss Sadio Mane who left the club for Bayern Munich at the end of last season after six successful years.

The German pinned Mohamed Salah's poor form on inconsistencies with his front three partners, since the departure of the Senegalese and injury to Roberto Firmino.

Liverpool also have Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz injured, while new signings Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo have not made quite the impact.
