It is not every day you see a goalkeeper winning the golden boot but for former Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, he was awarded the golden boot of the Belgian Pro League for the year 2022.

The 34 year old returned to his native country of Belgium after six years at Merseyside and has helped the club win back to back league titles and was awarded the best goalkeeper in 2019.

The award has left fans confused as the golden boot is awarded to the top scorer of a competition, but in Belgium it is awarded to the best player in the division, as reported by Liverpool Echo.

Reactions to Mignolet's golden boot

The 2019 Champions League winner beat Union SG midfielder Casper Nielsen and Genk forward Mike Ndayishimiye to the award, according to Sun UK and was celebrated on the UEFA Champions League official Twitter.

At first I was like ‘woaaahh, how’s he won the golden boot?’ Then I realised that this was actually given to the best player in Belgium! Then I was like ‘woaaahh, how sh*ts the Belgian league?’

Why name the award for best player the golden boot? That implies that he scored the most goals as a goalkeeper?

Klopp slams Chelsea transfers

While Mignolet is picking up an award, his former team Liverpool is languishing in the distant eight on the Premier League table and Klopp is concerned about Chelsea.

As Sports Brief earlier reported, Jurgen Klopp questioned Chelsea's transfer and how they are able to spend so much money in a short time.

The two teams played out a goalless draw in their last league game at Anfield, and it marked the debut for Blues new signing Mykhailo Mudryk.
