Van Dijk was speaking to Gary Neville during his show the Overlap. Neville is a former Manchester United player and currently works with Carragher as Sky Sports pundits.

Neville asked Van Dijk whether he would have the former defender in the current Liverpool set-up, to which he responded:

"Not even in the first 20. He will be in the stands."

Carragher was not amused and responded with a graphical representation showing that Pepe Reina has more clean sheets than Alisson Becker, who is the current goalkeeper.

Van Dijk has been a calming presence in defence for Jurgen Klopp since his switch from Southampton. He usually partners with the likes of Joel Matip, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez.

VVD reveals Giroud is the toughest striker he has ever faced

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk has revealed that Olivier Giroud is the toughest striker he has ever faced in his career.

The former Arsenal and Chelsea striker enjoyed a successful spell in the Premier League, most notably with the Gunners, and enjoyed solid support even after joining their rivals Arsenal.

The Frenchman netted a respectable 90 goals in 255 Premier League appearances for Arsenal and Chelsea between 2012 and 2021, with most of those appearances coming from the bench. The AC Milan striker has also enjoyed a stellar international career, playing over 100 matches for France and playing every minute of the 2018 World Cup, which they lifted.
