Liverpool are now closer to relegation than they are to the top four following their latest defeat to Leeds United.

The Reds have posted mixed results since the start of the new season, with the side picking just 16 points from their last 12 outings.

Indeed, Jurgen Klopp's charges have managed as many wins as they have lost in a woeful run that now has them sitting ninth in the Premier League standings.

Numbers crunched by ESPN now show that Liverpool are closer to the drop zone than they are to getting into the top four.

The Anfield-based outfit are sitting eight points behind fourth-placed Newcastle United, with just five points separating them and 18th-placed Leicester City.

How Liverpool lost to Leeds United

Having hammered Ajax 3-0 earlier in the week to book a last-16 spot in the Champions League, many believed Liverpool were back at their best.

However, Klopp's men could not maintain the momentum when they hosted Leeds on Saturday, as they were humbled 2-1 by the visitors.

Rodrigo Moreno needed just four minutes to break the deadlock for Leeds before Mohamed Salah equalised 10 minutes later.

The match looked on course to end in a 1-1 draw before Cysencio Summerville netted at stoppage time to condemn the home side to a 2-1 defeat.

Liverpool will now be hoping to get their campaign back on track when they host Tottenham in their next league clash.

Klopp rates Liverpool's top four chances

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Jurgen Klopp has opened up about Liverpool's top four chances following their latest defeat at the hands of Leeds United.

The loss left the Reds trailing league leaders Man City by 13 points and are eight points off a top-four spot.

Klopp has now hinted that the Merseysiders are in danger of not playing in the Champions League next season due to their inconsistencies.
