Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has opened up on what it is like to play in defence, as he made an honest admission about his style of play.

The young right-back has come under intense scrutiny this season over his defensive abilities, with large sections of fans saying he was largely responsible for Liverpool’s concession of goals.

He recently spoke to GQ Magazine where he opened up about recent criticism about his football.

The right-back admitted he has never liked to ‘play his position’ and prefers to ‘play the game’ rather than feel like he is restricted to one position on the pitch.

“You play the position, it limits you. It's like playing with shackles on,” he said as quoted by Daily Mail.

“I've always thought that with a sensible mind, play the game, get in positions that will hurt the opposition, and at the same time do the defensive work you need to do. It's more: play the game how it needs to be played.”
