  • Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp joked in August that his side ‘might have a witch in the building’
  • This was in reference to his injury list at the time, which included Diogo Jota, Thiago Alcantara and Ibrahima Konate
  • The Reds now face a similar challenge in October, with key defenders out of action with different injuries

Jurgen Klopp will likely be referencing the ‘witch’ claims he made in August 2022 as Liverpool continues to battle a new wave of injuries in October.

At the start of the season, there were hints the Red would likely struggle in one form or the other this season due to some notable absentees in midfield.

The likes of Thiago Alcantara, Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain, Naby Keita and Fabinho were all in the race against time to recover from different ailments at the time, with Klopp describing the situation as “crazy”.

"I’ve experienced a lot of weeks, but that was like we had a witch in the building. Honestly, everyday somebody else pulled up for the craziest reasons.” Klopp said after a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace on August 16.

Speaking to Sky Sports in a different interview, Klopp further reiterated his point, saying:

"Everything went against us during the week. It was crazy, like a witch was in the building."

Liverpool’s new fresh injury concerns

Months down the like and the Reds find themselves in an almost similar situation, only this time, the injuries have largely affected the team’s defence.

Forward Luis Diaz is expected to be out of action until after the World Cup, while Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joel Matip are now out for two weeks and will certainly miss the crunch clash against Manchester City.

Liverpool warned against signing Mbappe

Elsewhere, Sports Brief also reported on Darren Bent’s scathing warning to Liverpool regarding the signing of Kylian Mbappe.

Mbappe, 23, finds himself at the centre of yet another transfer hurricane, with reports this time indicating he wants to leave the club ‘immediately’.

Real Madrid would typically be the most likely candidate to take up Mbappe’s services, but PSG are unwilling to sell to the Spanish giants who are themselves done with the pursuit.

This leaves Liverpool as Mbappe’s most plausible option, but Bent believes Jurgen Klopp’s side is better off not pursuing a deal.
