The English giants extended their poor run into the continental stage on Wednesday night, September 7, as they were humbled 4-1 by Napoli in their Group A opener.

Piotr Zielinski bagged a brace for the Italian giants during the clash, with Andre-Frank Anguissa and Giovanni Simeone also getting their names on the scoresheet to condemn Liverpool to a comprehensive defeat.

Klopp has now taken some time to apologise to Liverpool supporters after their disappointing trip to Italy.

"Everybody would be happy if we could play the stuff we used to play. This was the least compact performance I saw from us for a long long time," he conceded via The Sun.

Speaking after the match, the Reds boss further addressed fears he could be shown the door at Anfield in the wake of Liverpool's humiliation.

Asked if he thinks his future is up in the air, the German said:

"Not really but who knows? There are different kind of owners. Our owners are rather calm and expect from me to sort the situation and not expect that someone else will sort it.
"That is how they always saw it and on the day they change their thoughts they might tell me."
