  • Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez had a series of misfortunes in his side's stalemate against Everton on Saturday afternoon
  • The striker failed to inspire his side to break down an inspired Jordan Pickford in the Everton goal as Liverpool dropped points again
  • He also had a seemingly painful moment when he crashed his manhood on the flag post under pressure from Nathan Patterson

Darwin Nunez had a difficult outing in his first Merseyside derby for Liverpool. Liverpool as a whole were frustrated by a resilient Everton who showed great character to pinch a point away from their rivals.

Nunez failed to inspire his side on his comeback from a three-match ban. The striker had been sent off against Crystal Palace a fortnight ago for headbutting Joachim Andersen.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp made the bold decision to drop the in-form Roberto Firmino to pave way for Nunez, but the former Benfica man failed to capitalize on the opportunity.

He had a couple of half-chances in the first half where he failed to put his headers on target. His best chance was a perfectly-weighted ball into the area, which he brought down brilliantly but failed to beat Jordan Pickford in the Everton goal.

Nunez had an embarrassing moment when he attempted an overhead kick that failed miserably. He then followed the ball down the corner flag but was pushed over by Everton's fullback Nathan Patterson.

The 23-year-old rammed into the corner flag with his private parts feeling the full extent of the pain to mark a difficult afternoon for him at Goodison. The Daily Star reports that a young Everton fan was caught laughing at the striker in the full spirit of the deep-rooted rivalry between the two sides.

How Everton vs Liverpool played out

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Everton played out to a goalless stalemate with Liverpool in the first meeting of the Merseyside clash at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon.

In what will go down as Everton's best performance of the season so far, the game was marked by near misses, incredible saves from both goalkeepers and rattling of the woodwork three times.

The game's first clear chance fell on Tom Davies after new signing Neal Maupay attempted to put a shot away. Davies quickly pounced on the loose ball but agonizingly watched his shot hit the right post and cannon back into play.
