  • Mo Salah has struggled to find his feet since the departure of Sadio Mane, netting twice in five outings this season
  • The Egyptian King, who won the Premier League Golden Boot award last season, failed to score or notch an assist in Liverpool's 9-0 win over Bournemouth last week
  • And the 30-year-old forward continued his dip in form against Everton this afternoon, missing a gilt-edge chance in the dying embers of the Merseyside derby

Mohamed Salah has endured a slow start to the season with the Egyptian talisman yet to rediscover the form which has made him one of the deadliest finishers in the Premier League.

Liverpool had to dig deep to claw from a goal down to pick their second win of the season against Newcastle in midweek and were poised to continue their winning run against Everton.

However, a resilient Everton denied their Merseyside neighbours all three points, as Liverpool fall further behind Premier League pacesetters with a pulsating goalless draw on Saturday afternoon.

According to the fans, Mane's absence has taken a huge toll on club talisman and three-time Premier League Golden Boot winner, Mo Salah.

@thatEsselguy reasoned: "Since Sadio Mane left Liverpool, Mo Salah has never been the same."

@irlbirbs argued Mane's absence did not only take a toll on Salah but the entire Liverpool team:

"Not only Salah, the whole of Liverpool FC has not been the same."
@AnfieldWatch tweeted: "Mo Salah is struggling out there today."

Another user compared the situation at Liverpool to a chef missing from a restaurant:

"One was cooking and one was eating. I guess since the chef left, there’s no one to cook."

@LawrenciaMmaan added:

"Mane was his backbone and he thought he was rather better than Mane."

Thrilling Merseyside derby ends in goalless draw as Liverpool continue slow start to season

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Everton played out to a goalless stalemate with Liverpool in the first meeting of the Merseyside clash at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon.

In what will go down as Everton's best performance of the season so far, the game was marked by near misses, incredible saves from both goalkeepers and rattling of the woodwork three times.

The game's first clear chance fell on Tom Davies after new signing Neal Maupay attempted to put a shot away. Davies quickly pounced on the loose ball but agonizingly watched his shot hit the right post and cannon back into play.
