  • The German’s record with his former sides at the seventh season mark also show he struggled after the success

Liverpool fans now fear they could be experiencing the infamous ‘Klopp curse’ in the Premier League.

The 2020 Premier League champions are in unfamiliar territory after their first three games of the 2022/23 campaign as they lie in the bottom half of the table with no wins so far.

Their opening game was an entertaining 2-2 draw against newly-promoted Fulham, which did not ring too many alarm bells.

But this was followed by a lowly 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace, a result that was similar to their previous one in the sense that they also failed to take the lead in that game.

Their latest clash was against Manchester United, which ended in a 2-1 defeat to pile more misery on Klopp early on in the season.

With just two points from a possible nine, this is Liverpool’s worst start under Jurgen Klopp, who is in his seventh campaign as manager at Anfield.

If history is anything to go by, Klopp tends to struggle with his previous clubs after the same amount of time in charge.

Unlike Jose Mourinho, who has a history of short stints with clubs, Klopp certainly lasts longer, but his record has a reputation of slowly dwindling.

While he was manager at Mainz, Klopp oversaw the team get relegated from the Bundesliga. He would then fail to help them get back to German top flight, eventually walking away from the job to be replaced by Thomas Tuchel.

With Borussia Dortmund, Klopp impressively beat Bayern Munich to the title twice, but things went south in his seventh season as the Black and Yellows finished seventh with 46 points and 14 league defeats that campaign.

Fans say Klopp is missing Mane

Meanwhile, a number of football fans on social media are also convinced Sadio Mane was the ‘it’ factor for Liverpool.

Since moving to Bayern Munich, the Senegalese has continued to thrive, while for Liverpool, It has been a nightmare start to the season.

Interestingly, after three games, Liverpool have scored four goals, the same numbers Mane has with Bayern Munich so far.
