Footie Fans Blame Liverpool’s Winless Start to Premier League on Sadio Mane’s Absence

  • Liverpool's slow start to life in the Premier League continued unabated following their 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace
  • It is the second successive draw the Reds have recorded on the back of their drama-filled 2-2 stalemate with Fulham
  • The results mean Liverpool, 19-time Premier League champions, are four points adrift of current league leaders and defending champions Man City

Football fans and Premier League lovers have identified Sadio Mane's absence as the reason behind Liverpool's slow start to the 2022-23 campaign.

Sadio Mane ended his six-year relationship with Liverpool this summer following his £35.1 million transfer to Bayern Munich.

Following the departure of Mane, the Reds moved swiftly to replace the Senegal international with former Benfica marksman Darwin Nunez for a club-record fee.

Mane has since hit the ground running in Germany, scoring on his competitive debut as the Bavarians won the DFL Super Cup before adding another goal on his maiden Bundesliga outing as Bayern crashed UEFA Europa League holders Frankfurt.

Despite not getting on the scoresheet, the 2021 AFCON winner put in a splendid performance as Bayern continued their perfect start to the campaign.

While the 31-year-old and Bayern continue to enjoy success in Germany, his former employers have had contrasting fortunes to the start of the season.

Liverpool are winless in their opening two matches in the Premier League - clawing back from the jaws of defeat to salvage a 2-2 draw against Fulham before being held by Crystal Palace to a 1-1 stalemate at Anfield on Monday, August 15.

Mane's replacement, Darwin Nunez, has had a mixed reaction to his Liverpool career - scoring against Fulham before he received his marching orders on a frustrating outing against Palace.
