A look at Liverpool's growing injury list as Thiago Alcantara suffers hamstring setback

Liverpool have been dealt a blow as Thiago Alcantara is set to be out for several weeks with a hamstring injury.

The 31-year old featured in his side’s opening Premier League game against Fulham, but was taken off early in the second half in the entertaining 2-2 draw at Craven Cottage.

Liverpool however do not consider the injury to be too serious, but Thiago will undergo further scans this week.

As reported by Sky Sports, the 31-year-old Spain international will be an absentee for their next match against Crystal Palace.

Jurgen Klopp’s men also face the likes of, Manchester United, Bournemouth and Newcastle before the end of August, and will commence September with the Merseyside derby.

Liverpool’s growing injury list

As at Tuesday, August 9, Liverpool have 10 first team players sidelined with different injuries in what will be a worrying trend for Klopp.

Another midfielder that was absent from the Fulham game was Naby Keita, who missed the clash through illness, although he is expected to make a return against Crystal Palace.

Curtis Jones is another player on the sidelines and according to Klopp, he suffered a “a stress reaction” which has left him sidelined since the Community Shield clash against Manchester City.

Ibrahima Konate also suffered a freak knee injury in Liverpool’s friendly against Strasbourg and looks set to be out for at least a month.

In attack, Liverpool are also missing the services of Diogo Jota, who picked up a hamstring injury while on international duty in June. He is however expected to be back in action by the end of August.

Kostas Tsimikas also missed the Fulham game with a knee issue, but is expected to be back in full training this week.

Meanwhile, new AS Roma signing Georginio Wijnaldum has disclosed the role Mohamed Salah played in his move to the Serie A club.
