  • Nunez took to social media to slam his critics after a nightmare first two games in a Liverpool shirt
  • The Uruguay international was on the receiving end of mass criticism after another tough friendly against Crystal Palace
  • But via his social media, Nunez seemed to hint he was oblivious to the criticism

Darwin Nunez has taken to social media to subtly hit back at his critics following an underwhelming start to his Liverpool career.

The Uruguay international came to Liverpool with a lot of prospects, and the Reds broke their bank for his services in a £64 million deal.

Nunez, 23, made his debut against Manchester United in a preseason friendly in Bangkok, but it was Erik Ten Hag’s men who came out on top, thumping the Anfield side 4-0.

It was during that game that Nunez got his first taste of criticism as fans went after him for missing a gilt-edged chance.

A shot from Mohammed Salah struck the post and fell for the former Benfica man, who somehow failed to convert from 10 yards with the goal at his mercy.

Things were not any easier for Nunez in the game against Crystal Palace, which Liverpool comfortably won 2-0.

He was introduced in the second half and once again made headlines for all the wrong reasons.

In two unfortunate incidents involving the striker, he failed to connect with the ball after a brilliant cross from Trent Alexander Arnold, and he also looked nervous in the penalty area, constantly giving away free kicks.

Amid claims that he is already flopping at Liverpool, Nunez took to Instagram with a blunt response to his critics.

He shared a series of pictures on his Instagram with the emoji of a man cupping his ears as well as the shush emoji.

On Twitter, he shared the same images with the caption ‘Resilience”.

What Klopp said about Nunez

Lucky for Nunez, Jurgen Klopp is willing to take his time with the striker.

Klopp insisted he is not worried, adding that he knows his new striker needs time to adjust to both the Premier League and his Liverpool style of play.

“The general judgement [on Nunez] is absolutely nil interest [to us]. It will be like this, and we all know it.” The gaffer said.
“It’s kind of a game or a joke for some people to pick out some situations where a player’s not doing well. That’s only a game from [fans of] other clubs, which is normal.

Chelsea win in first preseason friendly.

Elsewhere, Mason Mount conjured some moment of magic to help Chelsea beat Club America in a pre-season friendly in the USA.

Timo Werner and Mount scored on either side of a bizarre own goal from Reece James to put Chelsea on its way to a victory in their first of many friendlies in the United States to come.

Chelsea will continue with a number of friendlies lined up, including a clash with Premier League rivals Arsenal.
