Former Real Madid star James Rodriguez has turned on both his former clubs as he boldly declared support for Liverpool ahead of the Champions League final.

Rodriguez recently went on record to declare that he wants the Reds to clinch the Champions League, with the final set to be a repeat of the 2018 edition where Real Madrid triumphed.

Los Blancos comprehensively beat Liverpool in Kyiv , three years ago in a final that was rigged with mistakes from the then Liverpool goalkeeper Lloris Karius.

Liverpool, at the time, also suffered an early blow as Mohammed Salah had to be hauled off early with a shoulder injury after a coming together with Sergio Ramos.

Ahead of the final, Rodriguez spoke on who he fancied and he threw his weight behind Liverpool for the simple fact that his international teammate Luis Diaz was in the Reds’ squad.

“I want Liverpool to be champion," he said as quoted by Express Sport.. "I have many friends in Real Madrid and it is a difficult team for this type of match, but I want Lucho (Diaz) to win."

It is believed that Rodriguez played a part in helping Diaz secure a move to Liverpool in January.

Rodriguez, meanwhile, has been rumoured to want a return to European football, barely a year after moving from Everton to Qatari side Al Rayyan.

Diaz for Liverpool

Since signing for the Reds, the former Porto man has proved to be a bargain as he has integrated seamlessly into Jurgen Klopp’s system.

He was at it again on Tuesday, May 10 with a goal as Liverpool beat Aston Villa 2-1 to keep pressure on Manchester City at the top of the table.
