  • Liverpool and Manchester City played a 2-2 draw in what many described as the Premier League match of the season
  • Kevin De Bruyne and Gabriel Jesus scored for Manchester City while Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane found the back of the net for the Reds
  • A number of fans are upset with match referee Anthony Taylor claiming Fabinho and Thiago Alcantara deserved red cards during the cause of the game

A number of fans are left stunned that Fabinho and Thiago Alcantara were not sent off during Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Manchester City on Sunday evening.

The Premier League tie lived up to its pre-match razzmatazz as Jamie Carragher went on to claim it was English football's 'greatest' ever rivalry.

Several talking points were obvious even before the game, especially when referee Anthony Taylor from Manchester was announced as the official to take charge, leaving Liverpool fans irate.

The 43-year-old referee is said to be supporting National League side Altrincham F.C, but there were few controversial decisions in the potential Premier League decider between Liverpool and City.

Late in the game however things exploded into life for the officials, as Fabinho's challenge on Bernardo Silva in the 82nd minute asked some big questions, with the midfielder only picking up a yellow card.

Minutes later, Thiago was lucky that he didn't pick up a second yellow, as he seemed to take out Kevin de Bruyne, but Taylor this time didn't even give a foul.

City fans were also to remind everyone that in the first game between the two sides this season, which also finished 2-2, Liverpool were lucky not to be reduced to 10 men.

A fan wrote:

“I don't actually believe Anthony Taylor was actively trying to help LFC even though it ended up looking like that. I just think he was desperate not to give any big decisions that got remembered as the reason one team won the title. And that's a dreadful way to referee a match.

Another said:

“Liverpool fans love an injustice - so how did Thiago and Fabinho NOT get red cards today??

One posited:

- Clearly onside goal

- Fabinho red card

- Thiago 2nd yellow

"All these calls not given. But it's ok, because Anthony Taylor is from Manchester."

Real Madrid to rival Man City for Haaland

Meanwhile, Sports Brief earlier reported that Spanish giants Real Madrid are considering a move for Erling Haaland as soon as the summer transfer window opens, having failed to land Kylian Mbappe.

It was gathered that the La Liga outfit suffered a setback in their chase for PSG star Mbappe who seems to be prepared to extend his contract with the Parisians.

Real Madrid made Mbappe their major target, but they seem to have turned to Haaland with the hope of beating Manchester City to the player’s signature.
