Liam Rosenior’s Chelsea Future in Doubt After Four Consecutive Premier League Defeats

Chelsea are reportedly considering a managerial change at the end of the 2025/26 season, with Liam Rosenior under mounting pressure following a damaging run of form that has severely dented the club's top-four hopes.

Liam Rosenior is facing an uncertain future at Chelsea after the club reportedly began leaning toward replacing him when the current Premier League season concludes, according to reports emerging on 19 April 2026.

Italian transfer journalist Nicolò Schira on X was among the first to report the development, stating: “Chelsea are leaning towards changing manager at the end of the season. Liam Rosenior’s future on the Chelsea bench is in doubt.”

The catalyst for growing boardroom concern is a sustained collapse in form. Chelsea have now lost four consecutive Premier League matches — against Newcastle, Everton, Manchester City and Manchester United — failing to score in any of those fixtures. The most recent of those defeats was a 1-0 home loss to Manchester United at Stamford Bridge, a result that has left the club’s prospects of Champions League qualification looking increasingly remote.

Chelsea currently sit sixth in the Premier League table, a position that falls outside the Champions League qualification places. They trail third-placed Manchester United by 10 points, with only five games remaining in the season.

Rosenior took charge at Stamford Bridge in January 2026 following the departure of Enzo Maresca, who left the club after a reported fallout with the hierarchy. Since his appointment, Rosenior has overseen 12 Premier League matches, recording five wins, five defeats and two draws — a return that has not convinced the club’s ownership that he is the right long-term appointment.

Despite the poor league form, Rosenior has guided Chelsea to the semi-final of the FA Cup, meaning the possibility of silverware in his first spell at the club remains alive. Securing both a top-four finish and the FA Cup would likely be the minimum required for the board to reconsider their reported position on his future, though as things stand, a change of manager at season’s end appears the more probable outcome.

The situation places Rosenior in a difficult position heading into the final stretch of the campaign. Five league games remain to salvage a Champions League spot — a gap of 10 points to third place making that outcome mathematically possible but practically very challenging — while cup success could represent the defining argument in his favour.

Chelsea’s managerial instability has been a recurring theme in recent seasons. Maresca’s tenure lasted less than a full season before his exit in January 2026, and Rosenior himself now faces the prospect of a similarly brief chapter at the club. The Blues have cycled through several managers in the post-Roman Abramovich era as the club’s American ownership has sought to establish a stable football structure at Stamford Bridge.

No official statement has been issued by Chelsea Football Club regarding Rosenior’s position, and the club has not confirmed or denied the reports. With the FA Cup semi-final and the remaining Premier League fixtures still to come, a final decision on Rosenior’s future is not expected until the season concludes.
