The Reds have now suffered four straight defeats in the league, with three of those coming at Anfield.

Everton made a flying start to the game with Ben Godfrey creating a chance early on from a corner but his effort went wide.

Barely a minute later and the Toffees were ahead thanks to yet another defensive error from Liverpool.

January signing Ozan Kabak’s poor header gave the ball directly to Abdoulaye Doucoure who fed a ball to James Rodriguez who then slid a pass to fellow South American Richarlison and the Brazilian made no mistake against Alisson.

Unlike their past visits to Anfield, Everton showed massive character on the day as they played with authority with full knowledge that Liverpool have been shaky in their home turf in their past couple of games.

Liverpool, on the other hand, had their moments in the form of half chances in the first half as Roberto Firmino had a shot blocked by Michael Keane while Trent Alexander Arnold has a curling shot tipped over the bar by Jordan Pickford.

Despite the Reds’ chances, it was Everton who almost doubled the lead but for the brilliance of Alisson, who did superbly to deny Seamus Coleman from point blank range.

Richarlison started the second half as he did the first with a goal but the referee inevitably chopped it off as the Brazilian was miles offside.

Xherdan Shaqiri then slipped in Mo Salah and when it looked like the Egyptian would level the scores, Pickford made himself big to keep him out.

Liverpool were at times guilty of some blunt finishing in front of goal but that could also be credited to some brave and resolute defending from Carlo Ancelotti’s men who simply weren’t willing to lose another derby at Anfield.

With the Reds searching for an equaliser, Everton got a glorious chance to double the lead after being given a penalty late on after Trent Alexander Arrnold chopped down Calvert Lewin in the box.

Up stepped Gylfi Sirgudsson who made no mistake from the penalty spot as he tucked the ball home despite Alisson guessing the right way.

The second goal proved to be the sucker punch as for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
