Former Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has come out to slam the decision to leave Mohammed Salah out of the FIFA FIFPRO World 11.

The list was announced at the FIFA Best Awards in Switzerland on Monday, January 17 and Salah was a surprise exclusion.

Salah has been in stupendous form over the last two years and he followed up his title-winning campaign with another impressive season.

In the 2021/22 campaign the Egyptian has so far managed 23 goals in all competitions already.

Despite being on the three-man shortlist for the FIFA Best Men's player award, Salah, 29, missed out on the FIFA FIFPRO World 11.

This did not sit well with Dejan Lovren, now at Zenit St Petersburg, and the Croatian took to Twitter to make his feelings known.

'No place for @MoSalah to be placed in the Fifapro world11?? Again!! People with knowledge about football they know that he deserves to be in there. What needs to be done to be there? Maybe a European passport.'

Lovren, who left Liverpool in 2020, formed a close friendship with Salah during his time with the Reds.

The pair have been regularly photographed together and would consistently video call each other during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Together, they won the Champions League and the Premier League in 2019 and 2020 respectively.

Another notable absentee in the FIFA FIFPRO World 11 was Edouard Mendy, whose heroics helped Chelsea clinch the Champions League last season.

Instead, it was PSG's Gianluigi Donnarumma who took the goalkeeper position.

Elsewhere, Robert Lewandowski scooped the Best FIFA Men’s Player Award for the second consecutive year after an incredible 2021 that saw him net an impressive 69 goals for club and country.

In the ceremony held in Zurich, Switzerland on Monday, January 17, the Poland international was feted after scoring 52 points, which was far better than Cristiano Ronaldo’s 38 and Lionel Messi’s 35 points.
