Alex Iwobi: Nigerian star slammed over performance in Everton's defeat to Leicester

- Alex Iwobi has come under criticism over his woeful performance in Everton's 2-1 defeat to Leicester City

- The Super Eagles star started for Marco Silva's men in the game before being subbed in 78th minute

- Paul Robinson claims Iwobi lacks courage to hold the ball for a long period in the midfield

Former Tottenham goalkeeper, Paul Robinson, has blamed Everton's disappointing 2-1 defeat to Leicester City on Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi.

The Nigerian ace joined Toffen from Arsenal during the last summer transfer following lack of playing time under sacked Gunners boss Unai Emery.

Since arriving Everton, Iwobi has failed to replicate his daring brilliance under Arsene Wenger, and a loss to Leicester on Sunday, December 3, summed up his torrid run under Marcos Silva.

The 23-year-old was handed a start against Foxes but lost the chance to help Everton cruise to win before he was subbed for Moise Kean in the 78th minute.

James Vardy's beautiful equalizer and Kelechi Iheanacho's late minute strike denied Everton a golden chance to victory.

Speaking with Football Insider247, Robinson slammed Iwobi over his inability to hold the ball for long.

"He’s frustrating, his ball retention isn’t as good as it should be," Robinson said.

“Silva complained last week or the week before that he didn’t have enough pace going forward so this week he played Iwobi, Richarlison and Calvert-Lewin so the pace up top wasn’t a problem.

“But not enough sticks with Iwobi, it’s his end product. The pace and attacking threat is there, but he is frustrating at times,” the former star further submitted.

The Nigerian international has made 15 appearances across all competitions for Silva’s team this season, scoring two goals and registering one assist in the process.
