  • Kelechi Iheanacho failed in his attempt to lob the goalkeeper on three occasions and Brendan Rodgers has offered him an advice
  • The Nigerian international missed yet another opportunity on Thursday despite being one-on-one with the goalkeeper
  • According to the Leicester City manager, the 25-year-old must have variety in his finishes, as the golden rule for strikers is to score goals

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has told Kelechi Iheanacho that the ‘golden rule’ of being a striker is to hit the target and score goals.

The tactician watched from the sidelines as the Nigerian forward who started in place of injured Jamie Vardy tried to chip the goalkeeper in the last three outings, but failed to find the net each time.

During their win over Brentford, Iheanacho surged in-between two defenders to create a chance for himself before lobbing his attempt wide.

Against Manchester United, the 25-year-old took advantage of Jadon Sancho’s misplaced back-pass but scooped the ball over the bar from a tight angle.

The same situation happened on Thursday during their Europa League draw with PSV when he missed the biggest chance of the match when Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s interception sent him clear, his lob bouncing past the post

Rodgers has now suggested what the Nigerian international must do. He told Leicester Mercury:

“You need to have variety in your finishes, of course. I saw him this afternoon with the chiropodist, getting his feet done, and I asked her to shave a bit off his toe, just so he could bring it down a little bit.
“He’s shown that he can score goals. I love that confidence. I love that ability to be able to do that. But of course, you want them to hit the target. That’s the golden rule as a striker, to hit the target.”

De Gea blasts Man Utd teammates

Meanwhile, Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea blasted his team’s performance against Everton as ‘disgraceful’ as the Red Devils lost more ground in the race for a top-four finish.

But yet another drab performance saw United succumb to a 1-0 defeat, with Anthony Gordon’s strike in the 27th minute proving to be the difference.

United now stay stuck in seventh place, and Tottenham have the chance to edge away in fourth place when they take on Aston Villa in the other match.

Bayern star wonders how Maguire is Man Utd captain ahead of Ronaldo

Sports Brief earlier reported that Canada and Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies has joked about Manchester United's choice of Harry Maguire as club captain.

Maguire, who arrived at Manchester United three years ago and was appointed skipper of the Red Devils six months later, has come under serious scrutiny following a string of poor performances.

His below-par performances have intensified questions of his eligibility as captain of Manchester United, especially with the presence of Ronaldo at the club.
