  • Kaizer Chiefs' wretchedly inconsistent season continued at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane
  • The Amakhosi fell 3-2 to Lamontville Golden Arrows, heaping more pressure on coach Arthur Zwane
  • The home team took the lead twice but blew it as Abafana Bes'Thende eventually overwhelmed them in one of the matches of the season thus far

The match of the season thus far in the DStv Premiership unfolded at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Sunday afternoon.

The inconsistent Soweto giants crashed to a 3-2 defeat to Lamontville Golden Arrows at home. This after having taken the lead twice in a helter-skelter, end-to-end encounter during which both teams did not hold back in the search for the three points.

Sifiso Hlanti opened the scoring for the hosts with a smart header from a corner in the eighth minute. Ntsako Makhubela equalised in the first minute of the referee's optional time at the end of the first half after Chiefs went to sleep.

The promising Mdudzuo Shabalala then put the Amakhosi back into the lead just after half-time in the 47th minute. Arrows were never intent on backing down, levelling matters through Knox Mutizwa in the 69th minute. Mutizwa then came back to haunt the careless home team in the 78th minute after they failed to clear the danger.

Chiefs remained in fifth place on 28 points, while Arrows climbed up to ninth place with 25 points.

Pirates sees off Maritzburg

Orlando Pirates' excellent start to 2023 continued on Friday night. The Buccaneers saw off Maritzburg United 2-1 at Orlando Stadium.

They had to do so without suspended head coach Jose Riveiro, with assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi handling matters on the field of play.

Pirates' goals came from Monnapule Saleng, and Terrence Dzvukamanja, with Tumelo Njoti scoring a stunner for the visitors.
