Lamine Yamal Vows to Return Stronger After Hamstring Injury Rules Him Out for Remainder of Barcelona’s Season

Barcelona's 18-year-old winger Lamine Yamal has been sidelined for the rest of the 2025/26 La Liga season after sustaining a hamstring injury against Celta Vigo, though the club expects him to recover in time for Spain's FIFA World Cup campaign this summer.

FC Barcelona face the final stretch of their La Liga season without one of their most influential attackers after Lamine Yamal was ruled out for the remainder of the campaign. The 18-year-old winger suffered a hamstring injury during the club’s fixture against Celta Vigo, with the damage occurring late in the first half — shortly after Yamal had converted a penalty.

Medical assessments subsequently confirmed the severity of the injury, with the teenager unable to feature in any of Barcelona’s remaining six La Liga matches. For a player who has been among the standout performers of the season and widely regarded as one of the most promising young talents in world football, the timing represents a particularly costly interruption to his campaign.

Despite the blow, Barcelona have offered encouragement regarding Yamal’s longer-term prospects. The club indicated that the La Masia academy graduate is expected to be fit in time to join the Spain national team squad for the FIFA World Cup this summer — a tournament for which Spain will be among the European sides drawing significant attention.

Yamal addressed fans and teammates directly through social media following confirmation of the diagnosis, delivering a message that combined candid disappointment with a clear resolve to return. “This injury is keeping me off the pitch just when I wanted to be there the most, and it hurts more than I can put into words,” he said.

The winger did not shy away from describing the emotional difficulty of being unavailable during a critical stage of the season. “It hurts not to be able to fight alongside my teammates, not to be able to help when the team needs me. But I believe in them and I know they’ll give their all in every match,” he added.

Yamal also used the statement to frame the injury as a temporary rather than defining moment in his development. “I’ll be there, even if it’s from the sidelines, supporting, cheering and pushing them on just like one of the boys. This isn’t the end, it’s just a break. I’ll come back stronger, more eager than ever, and next season will be better,” he said.

The loss of Yamal is a significant setback for Barcelona at a juncture in the season where points remain critical. Having established himself as a key creative force for the Catalan club since breaking into the first team, his absence places additional responsibility on the shoulders of his attacking teammates to deliver results across the remaining fixtures.

Yamal became a prominent figure in European football at a remarkably young age, with his performances for both Barcelona and Spain drawing consistent praise from coaches and analysts. His contribution to Spain’s UEFA Euro 2024 victory — during which he scored a memorable goal in the semi-final against France on the eve of his 17th birthday — underscored his capacity to perform at the highest level under pressure. Should his recovery proceed as anticipated, the World Cup this summer would represent another major stage on which the teenager could further cement his reputation.
