Lamine Yamal Pushes Barcelona to Sign Victor Osimhen in Summer Transfer Window

Barcelona teenager Lamine Yamal has reportedly lobbied the club's sporting department to pursue Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen, though a €100 million asking price poses a significant financial obstacle for the Catalan side.

Victor Osimhen could be set for a move to Barcelona this summer, with reports emerging that 18-year-old winger Lamine Yamal has personally urged the club’s hierarchy to make the Nigerian international a priority signing during the upcoming transfer window.

According to reports from Hürriyet, Yamal has identified Osimhen as his ideal attacking partner and communicated as much to Barcelona’s sporting department. The teenager reportedly argued that the Galatasaray forward’s ability to stretch defences vertically and occupy centre-backs would complement his own style of play.

The case for Osimhen is partly rooted in Barcelona’s need to plan for life after Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker, now 37, has seen his output decline with age, and the club are understood to be actively seeking a long-term successor at centre-forward.

On current form, Osimhen represents one of Europe’s most productive strikers. The 2023 CAF Player of the Year has recorded 12 goals in 19 Süper Lig appearances for Galatasaray this season, while also contributing seven goals across 10 UEFA Champions League fixtures. Yamal, meanwhile, has been equally impressive at the other end of the pitch, registering 15 goals and 11 assists in just 27 La Liga appearances during the current campaign.

However, any deal is expected to be far from straightforward. Galatasaray are reportedly demanding a transfer fee in the region of €100 million for the 26-year-old striker — a figure that presents a considerable challenge for Joan Laporta’s board given Barcelona’s well-documented financial constraints.

The Catalan club continues to operate under the scrutiny of La Liga’s Financial Fair Play regulations, which have repeatedly limited their ability to register and sign players in recent transfer windows. To fund a move of this magnitude, Barcelona would likely need to generate significant revenue through player sales before any bid could be lodged.

Osimhen’s path to Galatasaray was itself shaped by financial complications. The striker joined the Turkish club on loan from Napoli in the 2024–25 season after a proposed move to Chelsea fell through, and his long-term contractual situation with the Italian side has remained a subject of ongoing speculation.

Should Barcelona successfully navigate the financial requirements, the arrival of Osimhen would mark a significant statement of intent ahead of a potentially pivotal period for the club. Whether Yamal’s reported influence on transfer policy carries enough weight to push the deal across the line remains to be seen.
