Kaizer Chiefs brushed off a difficult start to the week with a much-needed victory against Maritzburg United.

Goals courtesy of Khama Billiat and and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo helped the Amakhosi breeze past the People's Team, boosting them into third place on the DStv Premiership log table.

Chiefs had already been embarrassed again by Royal AM 1-0 on Sunday, before the Premier Soccer League rounded off the club's humiliation by denying their request to postpone its matches because of a Covid-19 outbreak. The club is in the process of appealing that judgement.

Social media, particularly Chiefs supporters, had their say on the result.

@taribo_lito responded:

"It's a disease within the country. This is also entertained by our soccer pundits, who will keep praising the efforts of Parker & Cole have on that team. The effort they talking about is the back & side ways passes they do and the fact that they run like headless chicken doing nothing."

Ramabulana Ramaru preached:

"It’s is evident with the structure and confidence we have, since Stuart Baxter came, we are a different team. "We look sharper and we look fearful. It is evident that we needed this man back into our lives. Let’s be honest to ourselves: when last did we have hope for our team? We should stop with this nonsense of dividing our team, and praise should be given to the entire technical staff!"

Dj Phat Cat quipped:

"Admin, tell Management to increase Ngcobo’s salary. Boy needs a Vrrr Phaaa. We can’t let our star boy drive a Yaris!"

Fans continue to express their doubts over DStv Compact Cup

The launch of the DStv Compact Cup was met with a fairly indifferent response by local football fans on social media.

The competition will take place in the week of 22 to 29 January, at the same time as the African Cup of Nations tournament South Africa did not qualify for.

Sports Brief reported that the competition is of a similar vein to the Carling Black Label Cup involving Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, in that fans get to vote for what they want.
