  • The entertaining ball-skills wizard Xolani "Blackberry" Nkala has ambitions of playing at the very top of South African football
  • Blackberry has hopes of one day turning out in the colours of Kaizer Chiefs, though he is an Orlando Pirates supporter
  • In June, he came to national prominence for his showboating during a township football festival, which got him a professional contract with the Motsepe Foundation Championship team Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila

Xolani "Blackberry" Nkala is not an unambitious showboater as some have come to see him.

He is currently on the books of Motsepe Foundation Championship team Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila, who he hopes to help promote to the DStv Premiership as soon as possible. The Limpopo-based team added him to its stable after he took South Africa by storm with his kasi flava antics during a township football festival that was broadcast on national television.

When asked about who he wanted to eventually play for in the Premier Soccer League recently he answered:

"I like 'Love and Peace'. I love the Amakhosi. I am a person who grew up supporting Pirates, but I enjoy 'Love and Peace's' style of play. I wish that I end up playing for them."

Xolani "Blackberry" Nkala warned about excessive kasi flava showboating by TTM coach Johnny Ferreira

No more pointless showboating!

These are the stern words of Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila head coach Johnny Ferreira to exciting new signing Xolani "Blackberry" Nkala.

As reported by Sports Brief, Nkala captured the football world's imagination with some sensational, amusing, and downright disrespectful skills during the DStv eKasi Champ of Champions in June. These antics earned the 26-year-old a contract with TTM.

However, Ferreira wants Blackberry to remain focused in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, saying:

"I think Nkala is a rough diamond that needs to be polished. He has a talent and I see him playing a big role in our fight to challenge for promotion next week. I am impressed with the hard work he is showing at training and how he is adapting to professional football.
"However, we did not sign him for showboating. We need Nkala to dribble past the defenders going forward, not dancing with the ball. Time is crucial in professional games."
