  • Economic Freedom Fighters deputy president Floyd Shivambu has made an interesting suggestion that will set tongues wagging
  • The fiery politician is of the opinion that teams that host Kaizer Chiefs must start paying a percentage fee from gate takings to the club
  • He said this following two Amakhosi matches days apart that her hosted by Cape Town City and Stellenbosch FC

Economic Freedom Fighters deputy president Floyd Shivambu has an opinion that should split the local football fraternity.

Shivambu believes that teams hosting Kaizer Chiefs - the most supported club in the country - must start paying their glamorous visitors a percentage fee of revenue generated from ticket sales when they are in town.

According to TimesLIVE, Shivambu tweeted:

“I think Kaizer Chiefs must start charging the hosting teams a certain fee percentage for playing against the biggest football club in SA. They only sell out tickets when hosting KC FC, and some even increase the ticket prices when hosting the biggest football club.”

His opinion came after Stellenbosch FC tweeted that their MTN 8 quarterfinal against the Amakhosi at the Danie Craven Stadium was sold out. Chiefs went on to win the match 4-3 on penalties after the tie ended 1-1 after extra time.

Cape Town City chairman John Comitis went on record saying ticket prices were raised when Chiefs visits the Cape Town Stadium for a variety of reasons.

Specifically, they were priced as R40 for small games, R80 for Orlando Pirates, and R100 for Kaizer Chiefs.

Stampede avoided as MTN 8 quarterfinal between Stellenbosch FC and Kaizer Chiefs is delayed by date fans

Stellenbosch FC and Kaizer Chiefs' MTN 8 quarterfinal clash at the Danie Craven Stadium had to be delayed by half-an-hour, earlier.

Meant to kick off at 15:00, the Premier Soccer League's match commissioner had to delay it to allow spectators into the stadium, Sports Brief reported. Unsurprisingly, an overwhelming amount of them were Amakhosi supporters.

The stadium, which seats 16 000 people, was eventually filled up at kick-off for the sold-out fixture. There was video footage of a stampede nearly taking place at one of the entrances.
