  • Referee Victor Gomes has admitted that he made a mistake booking Kaizer Chiefs Zitha Kwinika last weekend against Mamelodi Sundowns
  • This is according to Amakhosi coach Arthur Zwane, as confusion reigned following Siyabonga Ngezana's foul on Peter Shalulile in the box
  • The matter had been up for debate all week, with television pundit Andile "Ace" Ncobo under the impression that the caution to Kwinika was for dissent following the awarding of a penalty by Gomes

Referee Victor Gomes admitted that he awarded a yellow card last weekend incorrectly in the match between Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs.

Chiefs defender Siyabonga Ngezana brought down Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile in the box, but perplexingly, the former's colleague was shown a yellow card for the offense though he was far away from the action. There was the belief that this was for him supposedly showing dissent to Gomes, as Ngezana's foul did not seem to warrant a booking.

"Referee Victor Gomes came to me and said 'look I made a mistake, it is human error, I cautioned the wrong player'. That's what he said to me. And it is fine. We do understand. Let's carry on. We also make mistakes as coaches.
"We don't have to challenge the mistake. Like I said, it's a mistake and we move on."

Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane irritated by Stuart Baxter's backstabbing claims

Former Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter's words have had an incendiary effect inside the club.

As reported by Sports Brief, the Englishman claimed that among other things, he clashed with sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr., and was also undermined by what he called "agendas" around him. He was fired in April after Chiefs spluttered and stuttered throughout the 2021/22 campaign, being replaced in the interim by his assistant Arthur Zwane.

Zwane, who has since been appointed as the permanent head coach, was aggravated by these claims according to The Citizen.
