“You don’t become a bad player overnight. Mathoho has still got quality, and he can help these youngsters and new players coming in at the club,” Kannemeyer said.

Kannemeyer thinks that it would be a good thing for the club to have at least one senior defender in the squad.

Fans who took to social media aren’t as convinced. With the club opting for a younger line-up, many have called for Matoho’s release next.

@Sportdirector1:

"Patiently waiting for Matoho's release thank you Kaizer Chiefs."

@chael_Lucifer:

"Matoho needs to follow Rama. We don't need old defenders who will feed young players bad experience nonsense."

@thandoazaniaa:

"Matoho is not dodging this bullet. He will be out by pre-season.

@Cibo_eazy:

"Matoho survives...you can't mess with Thoyandou muthi."

Ex Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana defender David Kannemeyer slams Daniel Cardoso for controversial comments

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Daniel Cardoso has earned the ire of players and supporters following his comments about the squad's culture during his seven-year stay there.

Speaking to Robert Marawa on 'Marawa Sports Worldwide', the 33-year-old made startling claims about the possible reasons as to why the Amakhosi are on the club's worst trophyless run in history, including alleging that some players would arrive at training sessions drunk.

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender David Kannemeyer is not happy with the manner Cardoso went about airing this dirty laundry, calling it careless and childish.

Kaizer Chiefs announce mass clearout, Daniel Cardoso, Lee Baxter and Leonardo Castro are among those released

Kaizer Chiefs are in the process of a mass clearout at the Naturena. The Amakhosi announced on their social media pages that a host of players, and some technical staff, would be parting ways with the club.

Kearyn Baccus, Daniel Akpeyi, Leonardo Castro, Daniel Cardoso, Lebogang Manyama, Lazalous Kambole and Samir Nurković will all leave the club at the end of June.

The Amakhosi have also put Anthony Akumu Agay on the transfer list and parted ways with goalkeeper coach, Lee Baxter.
